Udaan, a special residential training center for girls has been operational since November 2011 as one of SRF Foundation’s unique initiatives under the Mewat Rural Education Program. Implemented in collaboration with CARE India and supported by the Government of Haryana, ‘Udaan’ is an eleven-month free, residential accelerated learning program in the Nuh block of Mewat district in Haryana.

Addressing the education needs of the girl child in the Meo-Muslim community, this program helps out-of-school girls, in the age group of 11-14 years complete their primary level education, equivalent to grade V of formal schooling. It gives the girls a second chance at education by also assisting with age-appropriate admission to regular school. At Udaan, the girls receive special training in leadership skills, health and hygiene, Urdu and Quran education as well as psycho-socio support to help them adjust proficiently in a regular school.
